Pres envoy rushes to Zabaikalsky Region due to miners’ strike

NOVOSIBIRSK, May 18 (PRIME) -- Presidential envoy to the Siberian Federal District Sergei Menyailo has urgently departed for the Zabaikalsky Region, where miners began a strike on Thursday, a regional information center said in a statement.

The Yugo-Zapadnaya gold mine, belonging to Darasunsky Rudnik, saw 81 workers refusing to leave the mine because of alleged wage arrears for April.

“Sergei Menyailo, who was on a working visit to the republic of Buryatia, has urgently left the city of Ulan-Ude for the Tungokochensky District of the Zabaikalsky Region,” the statement read.
